TAMPA, Fla. (October 4, 2017) – WUSF Public Media today named long-time banker and dedicated public broadcasting supporter George Lange as Chairman of its Advisory Board.
Lange takes the chairman role as WUSF radio is setting ratings records, and as the organization focuses more on state-wide newsgathering operations, digital media assets, student training programs and video production services.
Lange joined the WUSF board in 2006, and had previously been on the board of WGCU in Fort Myers. Also trained as an attorney, Lange retired recently from a long career in banking and wealth management.
“WUSF and NPR in particular are crown jewels in this community,” Lange said, “and this station holds such an important position in the community as a fantastic provider of news, jazz and classical music.”
Lange takes over the chairmanship from Mark Sena, who became WUSF’s first board chair in 2013. Sena has had a long career in telecommunications and worked with WUSF to create IntellisMedia, the station’s video production service. Sena also helped establish the WUSF Leadership Society – honoring supporters who give $10,000 or more each year.
“I’m proud to hand the gavel over to my good friend George, and I am grateful to know WUSF is in such good hands,” Sena said. “I think the future of public radio broadcasting is very strong and bright, with one of the most popular brands in the United States. I have been, and will always remain, a strong supporter.”
WUSF General Manager JoAnn Urofsky added, “We thank Mark for his many years of support, and we are glad he will remain on the board as well. George is a stalwart supporter of public broadcasting, and the wider Tampa Bay region is fortunate to have his expertise at times like these when quality sources of news and information are so vital.”
