Pasco-Hernando State College will host keynote speakers, guest lecturers, exhibits, presentations, interactive workshops, and peace and religion festivals for the 10th annual Peace Week, October 16 – 20. Peace Week events following the theme of Mindfulness will be held on PHSC’s East Campus in Dade City, North Campus in Brooksville, Porter Campus at Wiregrass Ranch in Wesley Chapel, Spring Hill Campus, and West Campus in New Port Richey.
The opening ceremony will feature keynote speaker Hector Marcel, presenting “Stepping into an Incredible Future” on Monday, October 16 at 11 a.m. on the West Campus in New Port Richey, 10230 Ridge Road in R151.
Other presentations and lectures scheduled throughout the week include a variety of topics: Mindfulness as a Classroom Strategy; Positivity in Action; The Role of Mindfulness in Public Service; Being Mindful of Gender Equality to End Gender Based Violence; Rocket Science and Art; and A Mission of Love—Bikers against Child Abuse.
In addition to keynote speakers, a variety of guest lecturers and faculty presenters will host sessions throughout Peace Week. At the West Campus in New Port Richey, Buddhist monks will create a sand mandala, a circular mural created from colored sand. Mindfulness festivals, with drum circles, exhibits and displays, will be held at each campus. Those interested in expressing ideas about peace may enjoy creating crafts, including tie-dye and sand art.
