200 workers needed for Disaster Food Stamp Program

September 29, 2017 by Post

CareerSource Suncoast is partnering with the Department of Children and Families to hire 200 workers to assist individuals and families in applying for the state’s Disaster Food Stamp Program. Greeters will be hired at $10/hour and eligibility workers at $15/hour, and any hours over 40 will be paid at time and one half the hourly rate. These are temporary positions for October 13 – 19 at Sarasota Square Mall and a location in Manatee County to be determined.

The Disaster Food Stamp Program provides benefits to applicants who are not currently receiving food benefits through regular SNAP and were living in the declared disaster area when Hurricane Irma hit. If eligible, recipients will receive disaster food assistance benefits that will be accessed using an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card.

CareerSource Suncoast Communications Director, Jen Zak, says they are looking to hire people quickly. “We have two weeks to hire 200 people for this project. Thousands of affected individuals and families are expected to show up and we need workers who can greet them and guide them through the application process. If you are looking for work, this is a great opportunity to make money and assist folks in our community who need help.”

Level 2 (fingerprinting) background screening is required and will be paid for by CareerSource Suncoast. The employment application can be found at careersourcesuncoast.com/dfsp
