Local Race Moved to February 17th; Focus on Post-Irma Support

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (September 20, 2017) – Susan G. Komen Florida Suncoast, based in St. Petersburg, announced today that due to the lingering impact of Hurricane Irma and the need of the community to focus on rebuilding, the organization is rescheduling its signature fundraising event to February 17, 2018.

“We understand how this date change will affect many of our participants and sponsors, and appreciate everyone’s understanding of the necessity of this change,” said Gina Kravitz, Komen Florida Suncoast’s Executive Director. “As a part of the community, we are sensitive to the immediate need to focus on rebuilding from the storm. We are here to support our neighbors in every way we can.”

If you or a loved one needs more information about breast health or breast cancer, please call Komen’s breast care helpline at 1-877 GO KOMEN (1-877-465-6636). All calls are answered by a trained and caring staff member in English and Spanish, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. ET. For information about local resources, please call Komen Florida Suncoast’s office at 727-823-0728.

The annual event, which was previously scheduled for Oct. 7th, is Komen Florida Suncoast’s largest and most important fundraiser, and attracts thousands of participants from across the Bay area for an evening of community, support and hope. The event will now be held on February 17, 2018, at Vinoy Park. Visit www.komensuncoast.org for more information.

“We look forward to seeing everyone in February,” added Kravitz. “We know it will be one of the best Races ever.”
