WHO: Hillel Academy students, families and staff
WHAT: Sukkot Celebration
WHEN: Monday, Oct. 9, 5:30 to 7 p.m.
WHERE: Hillel Academy, 2020 W. Fletcher Ave. Tampa, 33612
DETAILS: Hillel Academy students, families and staff will observe Sukkot, often referred to as “The Harvest Festival,” at the school. To celebrate, all will gather under the new sukkah, a temporary structure built for the first time at Hillel for this occasion. This is the first year that Hillel Academy will erect a structure large enough to accommodate all families of students, as well as faculty and staff. All will be included this year in Sukkot at Hillel Academy.
A service will be held and light appetizers and beverages will be served.
Much of the imagery and ritual of the seven-day Sukkot holiday revolves around rejoicing and thanking God for the completed harvest. Sukkot commemorates the wanderings of the Israelites in the desert after the revelation at Mount Sinai, with the sukkahs representing the temporary shelters in which the Israelites lived during those 40 years.
In addition to special festival readings, including Psalms of Praise (Hallel), additional prayers will be included in the service asking God for safety.
