SARASOTA COUNTY – Sarasota County is creating a Unified Development Code (UDC) that updates and brings together the land development and zoning regulations, which control the development of all properties in the unincorporated area of Sarasota County. Combining these two codes will make it simpler to find regulatory information for any piece of property, while clarifying the regulations.
Sarasota County has been working with a consulting firm to create the UDC since March of 2017. The consultant and county staff will hold a series of public workshops from September through November to share draft language for the new code and collect input from the public. Each workshop will be at 6 p.m. in the Main Hall at Nokomis Community Park, 234 Nippino Trail, Nokomis:
- Wednesday, Sept. 20
- Wednesday, Oct. 18
- Tuesday, Nov. 7
The county is committed to keeping the public involved and up-to-date throughout this process. A UDC project web page has been established for this purpose and can be found at scgov.net (keywords: Unified Development Code). The proposed UDC will ultimately be subject to the full public hearing process and presented to various groups, advisory committees and the Sarasota County Commission for consideration.
