Tampa Community Hospital Recognized in the 2017 U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospitals” issue for Applying Scientific Guidelines to Stroke Care

September 1, 2017 by Post

Tampa, Florida (August 31, 2017) – Tampa Community Hospital has earned a place in the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s roster of hospitals recognized for achievement in the Get With The Guidelines®–Stroke healthcare quality program. The list of award-winning hospitals appears in a 2017 U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospitals” issue congratulatory ad.  A STROKE SILVER PLUS was earned by Tampa Community Hospital and is one of 250 hospitals nationwide to earn recognition for stroke care.

Get With The Guidelines–Stroke was developed by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association to help healthcare professionals align stroke care with the most up-to-date scientific treatment guidelines. Stroke treatment guidelines include aggressive therapies and medications that can help improve patient care and outcomes. Hospitals must follow these measures at a set level for a designated period of time to be eligible for achievement awards.

“Tampa Community Hospital is proud to be named as one of America’s best hospitals for stroke care,” said Melissa Lofton, RN, JD, CPHRM, CPPS, LHRM, CPHQ | VP Quality & Patient Safety. “This honor recognizes our unfaltering commitment to providing cardiovascular patients with quality, evidence-based treatment that is the heart of our life-saving quality programs.  Today, more than 47 percent of the nation’s hospitals participate in at least one of the eight quality initiatives recognized by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.  We are honored to be included in this list of hospitals who clearly demonstrate passion and dedication to delivering better patient outcomes,” she added.

American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines offers a suite of hospital-based quality programs addressing a spectrum of cardiovascular conditions and stroke. Numerous published scientific studies demonstrate that adherence to Get With The Guidelines quality measures can lead to better patient outcomes, including increased survival.
