Lakeland, FL (August 30, 2017) On September 1st, Sue Schluender will retire from her position as Education and Operations Director at Explorations V Children’s Museum.
Explorations V Children’s Museum has been a part of Downtown Lakeland for over 25 years. The museum started in 1991 at its original address on 125 South Kentucky Avenue. It all started when a group ofLakeland families got together and decided to create a place for their kids to safely learn and explore the world and their imaginations.
Of the few founding families, Sue Schluender (then a mother of two) was one of them. At the time she was the Principal of Resurrection Catholic School and would come in on Sunday afternoons as a volunteer on her only free time. With a lot of team work, devotion, and elbow grease, their dream started to unfold. The museum opened its doors to the public later that year. After volunteering for many years, Sue was asked to work for the museum and help design education programs. With three children at home, Sue agreed to work part time but this soon grew into a full time job. Sue grew the program to encompass over 5 different programs, multiple home school classes, weekday and weekend events, community outreach education, and much more. The Museum is incredibly sad to have to say goodbye to such a strong leader and friend. She is excited to spend more time with her loving family and friends. We will miss you Sue!
