The City’s population is growing, more businesses are opening, and residents have two more opportunities to comment on the new fiscal year 2018 budget. Have a comment? Send an e-mail.
Population Rises Above 25,000
The official population estimate of permanent residents has climbed to 25,093. The population numbers, effective April 1, 2017, are used for county and state revenue sharing. This represents an increase of 7%, or 1,609 from the 2010 census population of 23,484. Projects including Callista Cay, Bayshore Heights, Keystone Ridge, and future projects like Meres Town Center and EcoVillage will add nearly 500 new residential units in the coming years.
Construction to Begin on New Downtown Parking Lot
Two new CRA infrastructure projects are beginning in September as a result of the growing Downtown business district. A municipal parking lot on Ring Avenue will add 30 parking spaces, and Ring Avenue between Tarpon Avenue and Lemon Street will be reconstructed. Both projects will begin in October. Estimated completion is January 2018. For an overview of the parking lot plans, click here.
Welcome New Businesses!
It’s been Ballyhoo, Crabby Bill’s, the Original Grill, and briefly, Eliza’s. Now taking over 900 N. Pinellas are successful restaurateurs who operate several Clearwater Beach favorites, including The Brown Boxer and Reef Steak and Seafood. Opening softly the week of Sept. 11, Bumpa’s Fish Shack will be a casual seafood restaurant with an outdoor sports-themed Tiki bar. Sounds like a winning recipe. Watch for the Grand Opening Sat., Sept. 16.
City’s Newest Brewery in the Spotlight
Two Frogs Brewing Company opened in late April, and is gaining recognition as the City’s third craft brewery with its American Ales and signature beer: the Snowmass, a chocolate cocoanut brown ale. The nanobrewery is located in a historic building at 151 E. Tarpon Ave.
