For the Girls International is Among 16 Florida Nonprofits to Attend CreatorU

August 28, 2017 by Post

Lutz, Fla. (August 28, 2017) – For the Girls International (FTGI) is pleased to announce their selection to participate in the 2017 Community Investment Connections EXPO this fall. Hosted by the Florida Alliance of Community Development Corporations, Inc. (FLACDC), 16 Florida nonprofits will present actual community and economic development projects to potential funders.

The select group of nonprofits will develop and present their projects for one of the following categories:
Housing Development
Economic Development
Programs That Empower People

FTGI and the other development teams, which are called Creators, will attend the virtual university, CreatorU, thanks to the support of the University of Florida’s Community Real Estate Development Program (CRED). Creators will participate in a series of webinar-based trainings on project development and story-telling. In addition, they will receive individualized coaching to help their projects meet the guidelines for public and private sector financing while responding to the unique challenges, assets and opportunities of their communities.

Creators also will participate in regional story-telling practice sessions and present to investors at the Community Investment Connections EXPO, receiving valuable feedback from panels of expert project evaluators and recognition for the Best Project in each respective category.

According to Tracey Metzger, executive director of FTGI, “We look forward to the process as a Creator to further develop our project which is a self development curriculum for middle and high school girls. The aim of the curriculum is to teach the girls about their identity, courage and purpose.” Metzger goes on to state that they, “also, appreciate the opportunity to gain useful feedback from potential funders.”

The Community Investment Connections EXPO will be held at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay, October 30 through November 1, 2017.
