ST. PETERSBURG, FL (August 25, 2017) – Beginning Friday, September 1, golfers at Mangrove Bay Golf Course, 875 62nd Ave. NE will tee off and play on brand new greens following a four-month renovation project totaling $650,000. This is the first major upgrade for the course since 1998, which remained open during the renovation, offering players temporary greens and putting surfaces at a discounted rate. City Council approved Weeki Wachee funds to pay for the project.
Significant highlights include the re-grassing of all 18 greens and three practice greens with Platinum Paspalum grass and the re-sodding of collars around the greens surfaces using 419 Bermuda grass; greens were also resized back to 1998 dimensions. Several holes now feature rebuilt tees to improve turf conditions and playability and new sand has been added to the bunkers. Golf cart paths, the course entrance road, and parking lot were repaved.
Opening in 1978, the 18-hole, championship par-72 course features USGA-modified greens, a driving range, tee times up to seven days in advance, PGA instruction for individuals and groups, and Golf for Fun, one of the country’s top 100 PGA player development programs.
Both riders and walkers are welcome; Mangrove Bay offers golf cars, including a SoloRider Adaptive car, and pull carts for rent. The course offers a fully-stocked pro shop featuring equipment and clothing from top golf brands, club rental, and a snack bar. For more information or to book a tee time, visit www.golfstpete.com.
