The Pasco Tax Collector’s Office Will Feature Feeding Pasco’s Elderly as September’s Charity-of-the-Month

August 24, 2017 by Post

During the month of September Feeding Pasco’s Elderly will be the featured charitable organization at the Pasco County Tax Collector’s Office. Feeding Pasco’s Elderly is a volunteer-driven, non-profit that is dedicated to serving the “hidden hungry” of Pasco County. The “hidden hungry” are primarily senior citizens who are homebound and who do not have family or other connections in the community to help provide for their basic needs.

“Our passionate board members and I are extremely excited and encouraged by the support of our generous community partners towards our strategy to eliminate food insecurity amongst Pasco County’s senior citizens,” states Richard Hayes, Founding Board Member and Treasurer. “The volunteer staff of Feeding Pasco’s Elderly relies upon the financial contributions from individual and corporate donors to solve this hidden problem of hunger of our older neighbors.”

Feeding Pasco’s Elderly is the fundraising arm of the county’s Elderly Nutrition Program, which includes the highly popular Meals-on-Wheels food delivery service. It is estimated that 28% of the approximately 500,000 people who call Pasco County home are senior citizens. It is further estimated that one in six seniors, or 16%, do not know where their next meal is going to come from.

“It is shameful that people who have lived their lives and, in many cases, have sacrificed so much in service to this nation, or who have served in business or industry as the backbone of our nation’s economy, daily live in fear of hunger,” states Tax Collector Mike Fasano. “It is a blessing for our office to sponsor Feeding Pasco’s Elderly as our next charity-of-the month. Since the word first got out that our office was featuring this incredible charity the donations began pouring in. It is comforting to know that people truly care about not only those who may be in greater need than themselves, but who also care about those who should be enjoying the golden years of their lives.”

The Pasco County Tax Collector’s Office supports local charitable organizations that assist residents of Pasco County. For more information about the charitable giving programs and other services at the Pasco Tax Collector’s Office please visit www.pascotaxes.com or call Greg Giordano, Assistant Tax Collector at 727-847-8179. For more information regarding Feeding Pasco’s Elderly please visit the website www.feedingpasco.com or contact Feeding Pasco’s Elderly via e-mail at info@feedingpasco.com or by leaving a message on the website. Funds raised during the month of September will stay in our community. They will be used to support, expand services to the “hidden hungry” and help raise awareness of this incredibly important issue that touches thousands of lives.
