SARASOTA, FL, August 25, 2017 – Sarasota Musica Viva, the area’s non-profit chamber music organization is pleased to announce their upcoming “Sunset Classics” 2017-2018 season at the Manatee Performance Center. For their second year, in partnership with the Center, they will be holding concerts in September, November, January, and February. The season kicks off on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at 5:30 PM with “Dreamscapes,” a repertoire of flute and piano expressing landscapes or scenes with the strangeness or mystery characteristic of dreams. The evening includes interactive program notes with the musicians and hauntingly beautiful music.
“What we love about this partnership between the Manatee Performance Center and Sarasota Musica Viva, is the approachable atmosphere the Center provides. Performing in the foyer allows the audience and the musicians to interact and bring a new awareness and passion for little known pieces,” explains Linda Bento Rei, Artistic Director.
Additional concerts planned for the season are a mixture of the familiar and the unique, with the final performance ending with a rousing evening of military splendor.
Sunday, November 26, 2017 at 5:30 PM, “Divine Inspiration”, a refreshing program of a variety of styles of music for flute and harp.
Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 5:30 PM, “Peter and the Wolf” and other youthful classics performed by the SMV Woodwind Quintet. This program will celebrate the child in all of us and is appropriate for all ages. Families are encouraged to attend.
Sunday, March 25, 2018 at 5:30pm “West Point Fife and Drum Reunion”. This program will explore the history of music in America with its roots in Military Music.
