Housing Trust Group Celebrates Grand Opening of Affordable Housing Community in Central Florida

August 24, 2017 by Post

Freedom Gardens brings 96 affordable apartments to city of Brooksville

Brooksville, Florida (August 23, 2017) – Housing Trust Group (HTG), one of the nation’s largest developers of affordable housing, celebrated the grand opening of Freedom Gardens, a 96-unit, $18.5 million affordable housing community in the Central Florida city of Brooksville. Public officials, community members and guests gathered this morning at the property, located at 932 Freedom Way, Brooksville, Florida 34601, for an official ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception.

Freedom Gardens is the first phase of a two-phase development. The second phase of Freedom Gardens will provide an additional 94 units, and is slated to begin construction in the first quarter of 2018.

Freedom Gardens will serve the much-needed housing market for working families with a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments ranging in rent from $400 to $880 per month. It was 100% leased upon opening.

During the ceremony, Matthew Rieger, President and CEO of HTG, thanked public officials and the City of Brooksville for their support.

“There is a dire need for safe, clean and affordable housing in Brooksville and throughout the Tampa area, where skyrocketing rents are putting people with low and middle incomes at a great disadvantage,” said Rieger. “Freedom Gardens will ease the burden on 96 families, making it possible for them to set aside money for education and other vital needs. It could not have been possible without the extraordinary support and dedication of William “Bill” Geiger, City of Brooksville’s Community Development Director, who has worked tirelessly on this project for more than three years and was always available for questions and brainstorming of ideas.”

Amenities at Freedom Gardens include a 4,806-square-foot Grand Clubhouse with a cyber café, 1,000-square-foot pool, after-school care, laundry facility, exercise room, walking path, central community gathering area, and a pet park. The architectural design is based on a “French Country” theme, featuring vertical accents, molded trim, and a color palette of stucco. Freedom Gardens has achieved a green building certification under the National Green Building Standard (NGBS) administered by the National Association of Home Builders.
HTG presently has four affordable housing communities under construction in Florida including Park at Wellington Phase I and Phase II in Holiday; Arbor View in Margate; and Covenant Villas in Belle Glade; along with two market-rate developments outside Florida: Forest Cove in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Aviva in Mesa, Arizona.
