Noises Off!, Avenue Q and Into the Woods
TAMPA, FL (August 22, 2017) – The H.B. Plant High School Theatre Company (PTC) is thrilled to announce a slate of popular shows sure to entertain wide audiences this school year! The PTC will perform Noises Off! October 11-14, 2017; they will compete with a one-act cutting of Avenue Q at the District 9 One-Act Festival in December, and the Company will wrap up their storybook season with the Sondheim classic musical Into the Woods on April 12-13 and 19-21, 2018. The fall production, Noises Off! and the spring musical Into the Woods will be performed in H.B. Plant High School’s auditorium at 7pm. Under the direction of Dan Franke, Plant High School’s theatre program has seen an impressive 300% increase in participation in just the past three years. From the 2013-14 school year to present, the number of students involved has grown from 70 to over 200 and continues to grow. Last year’s spring musical, The Addams Family, attracted more than 1,200 attendees with sold out performances!
Additionally, these talented students have been designated as Showcase winners in acting, musical theatre performance, costume design, makeup design and writing at both the district and state level. In 2016, the program’s student-written and student-directed One-Act won Best Play at the Hillsborough County District level, resulting in an invitation to perform at the State Festival, where the show achieved the highest honor – a “Superior” rating! In 2017 their One-Act also received a “Superior” ranking at both the district and state festivals, with cast members earning several awards for outstanding acting along the way. Most recently, 16 members of the Plant Theatre Company were recognized regionally by The Straz Center for the Performing Arts’ Broadway Star of the Future. One of Plant Theatre’s own was selected as a regional finalist; one of only 74 students nationally invited to New York City to compete in The National High School Musical Theatre Awards™ (the Jimmy® Awards)!
