Celebrating St. Petersburg’s well known reputation as a leading arts and cultural destination, a celebration of the arts shines a light on St. Petersburg’s arts and cultural offerings. This year’s festival focuses on three weekends of arts, including fine arts, performing arts, and a family arts festival.
WEEKEND 1 will feature the Visual Arts. Second Saturday ArtWalk (9/9) kicks off SPF17 along with a Creative Pinellas presentation of Nobuho Nagasawa “Conversations in Art+Innovations” on 9/7 followed by more conversations in art at the Morean on 9/9. Weekend highlights will include Opera on Tap @ the Iberian Rooster. (9/10). AARP will also present Art of Remembrance – Day of Service Honoring 9/11 (9/9) at the Veterans Arts Center of Tampa Bay.
WEEKEND 2 will highlight Performing Arts. SPF17’s Pop-Up Performances (9/14-9/16) will present artists spontaneously performing in 17 St. Petersburg restaurants between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. WEBB’S CITY “The Musical” (9/14-9/17) is about St. Pete’s famous drug store and returns to the Palladium in a concert format, produced by the American Stage Theater Company and The Palladium at St. Pete College. The St. Pete Arts and Fashion Week Annual Runway Show (9/16) will be held at One Progress Plaza.
WEEKEND 3 is all about Family Arts. Arts Alive! Free Museum Day (9/23) will be at nine museums throughout St. Petersburg. Florida Bjorkestra: BUFFYFEST at the Palladium (9/23) is an inspired multimedia event with musicians, artists, makers and cosplayers all cleverly rallying around the iconic Buffy The Vampire Slayer theme. A Florida Orchestra Sampler(9/24) will present two short free programs: Horn Quintet and The Science of Sound plus, a String Quartet at the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg. The St. Petersburg Jazz Experience 2017 at Vinoy Park (9/23-9/24) is billed as the #1 Jazz Festival in Tampa Bay! This event provides a platform for our city’s aspiring musicians who may not have the means or opportunity to showcase their talent to larger audiences.
