Susan G. Komen Florida Suncoast Kicks Off the 19th Annual Race for the Cure

August 13, 2017 by Post

We Live Here. We Race Here. We Save Lives Here.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL- Susan G. Komen Florida Suncoast has officially launched registration and fundraising for the 19th Annual Race for the Cure. The Race will be held Saturday night, October 7th, 2017 at Albert Whitted Park in beautiful downtown St. Petersburg.

We believe that no one should die of breast cancer because they lack access to care and treatment services. The Race is our single biggest fundraiser each year that helps Komen Florida Suncoast bridge the gap for uninsured and underinsured women and men in the Florida Suncoast service area. Komen Florida Suncoast’s goal this year is to raise over $500,000 to support women and men in our six-county service area for life saving breast health services.

Participants can walk, jog, run, volunteer or donate to help Komen Florida Suncoast save lives and provide critical care and support. Komen Florida Suncoast has funded over $14 million into local breast health services and has invested over $6 million into global research grants to find treatments, therapies and cures to fight breast cancer on all fronts.

Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is presented by Bank of America and nationally sponsored by American Airlines, Ford and New Balance. Local area sponsors include Crunch Fitness, Belk, Fit2Run, DJ Jake Dela Cruz, Publix, Rooms To Go, Tampa Bay Times, Tower Radiology and Beasley Media. Our 2017 VIPink Team Tailgate sponsors include Yard of Ale St. Pete, MacDinton’s St. Pete, Caddy’s on Central, Caddy’s on the Beach and 260 First.

About Susan G. Komen® Florida Suncoast-
The local Florida Suncoast Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure began in 1999 in Pinellas County and has expanded to a six-county area. The Florida Suncoast Affiliate’s service area is: Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sarasota counties.

To date, the Affiliate has raised over $14 million through various fundraising events such as the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Up to 75% of funds raised are returned to the community through grants to non-profit organizations that are fighting to change the impact of breast cancer upon the women and families of the Florida Suncoast community, and 25% goes to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Research and Awards program. The Florida Suncoast Affiliate awards grants in the local community for non-duplicative breast health services to non-profit organizations to support a variety of programs providing breast health education, clinical breast exams, screening mammography, and diagnostic evaluations for the underserved.
