Local solar contractor Brilliant Harvest, LLC recently completed the installation of an 11.97 kW solar photovoltaic array on the New College campus. The array is made up of panels manufactured in Florida by SolarTech Universal. The project included an intelligent inverter system to analyze performance and output and ensure maximum energy harvest for many years to come. The energy production of 18,000 kWh per year will offset consumption in the school’s new Heiser Natural Sciences Building.
The funds for this project came from the New College Green Fee, a small fee paid by each student that provides about $28,000 each year for sustainable projects on campus. It is administered by the Council for Green Affairs, a part of New College’s student government. The CGA allocates funds for various “green” projects at the beginning of every spring semester.
“Brilliant Harvest was honored to be selected to install this solar array for New College,” said Brilliant Harvest president Bill Johnson. “It is apparent the administration and student body are concerned with issues of sustainability and will continue to find ways to reduce its carbon footprint. We have been pleased to play a role in helping the school to do just that.”
Since 2009, Brilliant Harvest has designed, developed, constructed and operated photovoltaic and solar hot water systems for individuals, families, nonprofit organizations and businesses in Sarasota, Bradenton, Venice, North Port, Palmetto, Ellenton and Port Charlotte.
