SARASOTA COUNTY- Sarasota County has received another statewide recognition for its Comprehensive Plan, this time picking up the Award of Excellence from the American Planning Association’s Florida Chapter.
The honors come a few months after the county’s Comprehensive Plan received the 2017 Award of Merit from the Florida Planning and Zoning Association (FPZA).
Last year, the county’s Planning and Development Services staff, as well as more than 50 subject matter experts from each county department, completed an 18-month update to this important, overarching plan in order to reflect changes to our community characteristics and demographics. The plan guides the county’s decision-making and investment of resources in the unincorporated areas of the county.
The Sarasota County Comprehensive Plan was previously recognized by the FPZA’s Gulf Coast Chapter with the 2016 Outstanding Planning Project Award.
Sarasota County staff will formally accept the latest award at the APA’s Annual State Conference in Daytona Beach this September.
