The Perlman Music Program/Suncoast is awarded a $51,455 Tourist Development Cultural/Arts grant to support public performances

July 14, 2017 by Post

SARASOTA, Fla. (July 2017) — The Perlman Music Program/Suncoast (PMP/Suncoast) is delighted to announce the approval of a Tourist Development Cultural/Arts grant in the amount of $51,445 from The Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County. These funds will help support performances by alumni of The Perlman Music Program (PMP) at various cultural institutions throughout Sarasota County for the 2017-2018 season, as well as the annual Celebration Concert held each January at the Sarasota Opera House.

Each year, PMP/Suncoast brings PMP alumni to the area to perform for local and visiting audiences. “We are so excited to be able to continue our efforts to bring quality performances by extraordinary young musicians to new and existing classical music audiences,” said Elizabeth Power, Executive Director of PMP/Suncoast.” Funding from TDC/A means that PMP alumni will perform for audiences at some of the most iconic institutions in Sarasota.”

This is the second year PMP/Suncoast has received funding from TDC/A for its Classic and Classical programming. During the 2017-2018 season, PMP/Suncoast will present world class musicians with collaborations and performances at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium, Ringling College of Art and Design and Historic Spanish Point. The Celebration Concert, the highlight of the PMP Sarasota Winter Residency and featuring the talents of PMP students, will be held at the Sarasota Opera House on January 4, 2018 with performances by the PMP String Orchestra, led by Itzhak Perlman; and the PMP Chorus, led by Patrick Romano.

The Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County administers almost two million dollars each year in Tourist Development Cultural/Arts grants. Grants are available to non-profit organizations with a recognized ability to produce, present and promote cultural and arts activities that appeal to tourists.

About The Perlman Music Program/Suncoast
The Perlman Music Program/Suncoast, Inc. was formally established in May 2008 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization to provide a permanent home for The Perlman Music Program Sarasota Winter Residency, following four years of affiliation with other performing arts organizations. Founded by Toby Perlman, wife of internationally acclaimed concert violinist and conductor Itzhak Perlman, and based in New York, PMP augments its summer school and travel residency programs each December with a 17-day winter residency, providing valuable mentoring and performance opportunities for young string musicians, ages 12-20+, and offering approximately 20 free musical events to community audiences on the campus of University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee. This year’s PMP Sarasota Winter Residency runs December 21, 2017 through January 6, 2018. For more information, visit PMPSuncoast.org.

In addition, throughout the year, PMP/Suncoast brings alumni of PMP, now professional musicians, to our area for educational and outreach programs: PMP Alumni: In Schools takes the musicians into elementary, middle and high schools to educate and interact with students and teachers; PMP Alumni: Around Town offers free or low-cost PMP alumni performances and events to people of all ages at local community venues.
