McClain’s Old Florida Gourmet and Nassau Candy Combing Distribution Operations

July 12, 2017 by Post

SARASOTA, Fla., July 12, 2017 – McClain’s Old Florida Gourmet, a distributor of specialty food and candy primarily throughout Florida, have signed an agreement to combine its business with Nassau Candy South, a subsidiary of Nassau Candy Distributors, Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of specialty confectionery, gourmet and snack food products, the company announced today.

Upon closing, McClain’s will become a division of Nassau Candy South (NCS), said Kelly Abercrombie, McClain’s CEO and co-owner. Abercrombie and another McClain’s owner, Taylor McClain Mock, will have responsibility for continuing to grow McClain’s business. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“We consider this a synergistic combination,” Abercrombie said. “McClain’s had grown to the point where we had to make a decision about significantly expanding logistics, technology and geographic penetration, which Nassau Candy already has. The transaction also provides our customers with a larger number of products and short-run private label customization, and they still will be able to hand pick their order and buy less than case quantities,”

”Nassau Candy South is tremendously excited to partner with Kelly and Taylor in this transaction,” said Andrew Reitman, president of the division. “We believe there is significant opportunity to build upon the great products and customers that McClain’s has established both within our existing customers and new prospect customers. We also believe there is significant opportunity for our product line within McClain’s customer base.”

Sarasota-based Citra Products of Florida, which produces fruit eating kitchen utensils and also is owned by Abercrombie and Mock, is not included in the McClain’s transaction, Abercrombie said.
