Local Teachers Start Hurricane Volleyball Academy
Teaching teens teamwork and strong leadership skills through competitive and encouraging coaching techniques. HVA tryouts Aug. 5th.
Brandon, Florida: Two local teachers are heading into their 2nd season of Hurricane Volleyball Academy a volleyball club they created to encourage students and families to focus on teambuilding, community and healthy activity. Tryouts for this club will be held at Central Baptist Church on August 5th.
This husband and wife duo got the idea to start their own club by seeing the impact that team sports have on the youth in their schools. Both Victoria and Brian currently work at East Bay High School and have been teaching in Hillsborough for over 10 years. When a teenager is a part of a proactive and positive sport, those teens have higher self-esteem, higher goals, and a better sense of connection to their community. “This is absolutely something we wanted to get behind.” Victoria Adams says on why they started HVA. The Head Coach and Club Director, Brian Adams, has been playing competitive volleyball since age 18, and a head volleyball coach for the past 7 years at East Bay High School.
After their successful 2016-2017 Club season, HVA is excited to welcome their Hurricane Volleyball Families back and make room for lots of new ones. Why join Hurricane Volleyball Academy? Just ask their families, Tod Pukas father of a 16 Elite player says, “The coaching was awesome, player to coach ratio was excellent, and they really focused on building all the players skills. Vicki Kosky a mother of a 16s and 18s player says, “Last year we saw her sweat and push herself, while always laughing and having fun…she was not just coached she was encouraged.”
