Hudson, Florida (June 20, 2017) – Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point recently announced the winners of this year’s Frist Humanitarian Awards. In making the announcement hospital CEO Shayne George said, “HCA has a long tradition of recognizing those who embody the values and spirit of our culture. We celebrate and commend individuals for their achievements and contributions to their communities and our organization.”
The Frist Humanitarian Award was created in The Frist Humanitarian Award was created in 1971 to honor individuals for their humanitarian and volunteer activities.
Named in honor of Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Sr., the Frist Humanitarian Award is the most prestigious honor and longest standing tradition. Dr. Frist was often heard saying, “Good people beget good people” in reference to the quality of personnel that are associated with HCA. The Frist Award recognizes individuals whose daily dedication and care giving epitomize the highest standards of quality and personal commitment.
It is the highest honor HCA bestows on its most important resources, the physicians, employees, and volunteers.
A Frist award nominee is someone who has demonstrated remarkable concern for the welfare and happiness of patients, and who has demonstrated a high level of commitment to community service above and beyond expectations.
A Frist award is given to one volunteer, one employee, and one physician. Each nominee is been judged on the following four categories:
- Level of commitment to the facility & patient care
- Level of commitment to the community
- Having a positive effect on others
- Dependability, consistency and people oriented
The employee and volunteer winners receive $250 each. The physician receives a donation of $500 to the charity of their choice. Each winner will also receive a Frist lapel pin, a plaque, a front row parking spot or pass in the physicians’ parking lot for one full year, a beautiful large dish garden, and their picture on the display at the front entrance of the hospital.
This year’s volunteer recipient of the Frist Humanitarian Award is Judith Larkin.
Judy has volunteered at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point since 1988, over 28 years accumulating over 16,000 hours. During this time she has volunteered as a Chaplain’s Aide and co-chairperson as well as attended ministerial monthly meetings.
Judy is a “Spirit of Giving”. She goes the distance to take care of others. This is her own personal crusade – the spirit is within her – she does not need to orchestrate through an organization – she has the Spirit of Giving and Helping Others Within.
Just a ‘few’ of the ‘many’ gifts she brings to others is her visits to the Assisted Living Facilities on a daily basis and follows them through to Hospice if necessary. Calls on individuals through wellness checks and visits with widowed and people living alone. Takes individuals out to dinner, runs errands, shopping, and doctor appointments. She delivers flowers and baskets at different holidays and occasions to the homebound.
The employee Frist Award recipient is Jonathan Hoehn of RMCBP’s imaging department. Jonathan’s nomination stated that he is an exceptional employee who consistently goes above and beyond for his patients especially in special procedures. “He has been recognized more than once by patients for his outstanding patient care and skill level. Jonathan’s nomination stated that he is not only an exceptional employee but gives back to the community as well. He is a former army sergeant for over 10 years with two tours overseas. He is currently an active Scout leader for both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Jon is regarded as humble and never asks for anything in return for his actions.
This year’s Frist Physician Award was presented to Dr. Shaival Thakore. Dr. Thakore takes pride of his mentorship of new physicians. His nomination stated that he truly cares about his patients and is always easy to talk to even when busy. “He is the most kind-hearted physician we have and he is helpful and courteous at all times.”
