Update From the Road

No Longer Waiting for Wheels : Zachari
Vehicle for Veterans

With her “New to Her” 2012 Ford Fusion she can focus on her passion, taking care of her patients, instead of spending 6 hrs getting to and from work.

In celebration of Memorial Day, Wheels of Success presented Zachari, a female Navy Veteran, with the keys to her success, a “New to Her” 2012 Ford Fusion donated by AAA Insurance. Previously without a vehicle, she was limited to bus routes and schedules which were taking her 3 hours each way to get to work. We are so pleased to be able to honor her military service as well as her daughter’s, who is currently serving. Zachari’s whole family is military; her daughter is currently in the Navy serving overseas in the Mediterranean. After leaving the service in 1992, Zachari remained committed to the military, helping other veterans through the VA housing program.

Now she wants to help others in a different way, as a patient caregiver. Zachari is currently working in a therapeutic program and studying to obtain her CNA license in June. When she obtains her CNA license she will be looking for a CNA or Home Health Aid position, both of which require a vehicle, as bus schedules do not coincide with when patient care is needed. With her “New to Her” 2012 Ford Fusion she can focus on her passion, taking care of her patients, instead of spending 6 hrs getting to and from work. Zachari is on the road to success and we expect to hear great things about her future.

Waiting for Wheels : Melinda
Vehicle for Veterans

Melinda served in the army from 1983 -1992 in Germany and Korea feeding her fellow service members. After the military she became homeless but her relentless work ethic and spirit persevered. She obtained housing through the VA HUD/VASH program and has been stable in her own apartment for over a year. Melinda is working full time as a patient caregiver, often taking overnight shifts whenever offered to further help maintain her independence and financial stability. Getting to work is a daily struggle but she persists rain or shine taking 4 buses and riding many hours a day.

Melinda has been patiently waiting for her “New to Her” wheels since Feb but it should not be much longer since we have matched her with a vehicle and a Build-A-Car sponsor. Wheels will be placing her in a donated low mileage 2001 Acura CL once the repairs have been completed thanks to a grant from:

Pay it Forward Philosophy
Wheels of Success operates with a pay-it-forward philosophy. Clients receiving a vehicle “buy” it from the program by making small monthly payments for 1 year. They also donate three hours of service monthly to the program. These fees help Wheels of Success assist additional clients and allow the recipients to pay-it-forward.
