Tampa, Fla. – The Patel Conservatory at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts will present Disney’s Beauty and the Beast June 22-25 and June 29-July 2 in the TECO Theater.
Patel Conservatory students in grade eight through college will bring this “tale as old as time” to life. This enchanted classic tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast doesn’t learn his lesson soon, he and his entire household will be doomed for all eternity. The production features a live orchestra and is directed by Straz Center Vice President of Education Suzanne Livesay.
Catchy and unforgettable songs such as “Be Our Guest”, “Gaston” and “Beauty and the Beast,” with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, will enrapture audiences as they leave the theater humming. The orchestral music for the show will be performed live by the Patel Conservatory’s summer Repertory Orchestra.
Performances are Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 2 and 7 p.m. A sensory friendly performance will be held Sunday, June 25, at 2 p.m. Regularly priced tickets to Disney’s Beauty and the Beast are $15-$20 and may be purchased by calling 813.229.STAR (7827) or 800.955.1045 outside Tampa Bay, in person at the Straz Center Ticket Office or online at www.strazcenter.org.
