Nonprofit Agencies Poised to Build Production Capacity
Tampa, Fla. – Florida Alliance of Community Development Corporations, Inc. (FLACDC) is pleased to announce the 2017 Community Investment Connections EXPO. This innovative event will provide a venue for up to 30 Florida nonprofits to present actual community and economic development projects to potential funders.
The Expo will be held at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay, October 30 through November 1, 2017 and only 10 Creator projects will be selected in each of the following categories:
- Housing Development
- Economic Development
- Programs That Empower People
These nonprofit organizations and their development teams, which we call Creators, will attend the virtual university, CreatorU, thanks to the support the University of South Florida’s Community Real Estate Development Program (CRED). Creators will participate in a series of webinar-based trainings on project development and story-telling and receive individualized coaching to help their projects meet the guidelines for public and private sector financing while responding to the unique challenges, assets and opportunities of their communities.
In addition to the web-based training and coaching, Creators will participate in regional story-telling practice sessions and present to investors at the Community Investment Connections EXPO, receiving valuable feedback from panels of expert project evaluators and recognition for the Best Project in the respective category.
“As more and more nonprofits are looking at social enterprise to diversify their funding streams, this conference will give them a perfect opportunity to pitch their ideas!” says Sarah Combs, University Area CDC executive director and CEO and FLACDC board member. “The EXPO will provide a unique opportunity for nonprofits to showcase their amazing community development work by bringing their projects directly to investors to get real feedback.”

According to Terry Chelikowsky, FLACDC executive director, “The FLACDC Board of Directors and I are excited to provide this unique experience for our members and other Florida-based nonprofits. We hope this exposure to traditional and non-traditional investors will allow them to accomplish even more in their communities than they already do.”
FLACDC Board Chairman Joey Henderson states that, “In this politically-charged environment where funding for many nonprofits is in jeopardy, it’s become even more critical to help Florida nonprofits to improve upon telling their stories and strengthening their resolve when pursuing potential funders and investors.”
The Creator application fee for FLACDC members is $25 and $50 for non-members. The final date to accept applications is on Friday, June 9, 2017.
