SARASOTA, Fla. (May 16, 2017) – USF Sarasota-Manatee is pleased to announce it has appointed Edwin R. “Eddie” Beauchamp, vice president of operations at Georgia Gwinnett College, to serve as Regional Vice Chancellor for Business and Financial Affairs, starting in August.
Beauchamp, who comes to USFSM with 28 years of experience in higher education business operations, will replace Ben Ellinor, who will retire from USFSM in July. “After visiting USFSM in early April I was impressed by the university and I’m eager to get started,” Beauchamp said. “The knowledge and experience obtained in helping create Georgia’s first new state college in more than 100 years will provide the foundation needed to help USFSM accomplish its vision, mission and strategic plan.” Dr. Terry Osborn, interim regional chancellor for USFSM, said he was immediately impressed by Beauchamp’s experience and knowledge of higher educational finances and other issues. “We are looking forward to having Mr. Beauchamp join our campus this summer as our new regional vice chancellor for Business and Finance,” said Dr. Osborn. “Eddie brings a wealth of experience in higher education and will be a valuable part of our senior leadership team helping to guide the strategic mission of the campus.” Beauchamp is retiring from Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) after 11 years, first as vice president of business and finance and most recently as vice president of operations, a position he has held for seven years. During his time at GGC, Beauchamp played a pivotal role in campus’ rapid expansion from 118 students in 2006, when the college opened, to more than 12,000 students today. GGC, a four-year college with 15 majors and 42 concentrations, is located in Lawrenceville about 30 miles northeast of Atlanta. As the campus grew, Beauchamp at various times oversaw aspects of budgeting, planning, and design and construction management for more than a million square of academic and student support space. Among the facilities added during his tenure were a student center for food-service operations, a Barnes and Noble bookstore, offices for student government, an academic classroom building, housing for 1,000 students, an allied health center for nursing and chemistry programs, athletic facilities and a 750-car parking deck. Prior to joining GGC, Beauchamp worked at Gwinnett University Center, where he served as business manager and interim director; Georgia Perimeter College, where he worked as director of internal audits; and at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he was an internal auditor. Beauchamp holds a master’s degree in accounting from Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Ga., and a bachelor’s degree in accounting, with a focus on computer science and computer information systems, from David Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn. He’s been married to his wife, Pam, for 28 years and together they have a son, Jacob, who recently graduated from the University of North Georgia. Beauchamp said he contacted USFSM about the vice chancellor’s position in March and was immediately impressed during an in-person interview in April. He almost missed the appointment, however, when severe storms grounded most flights out of Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, forcing him to drive to Sarasota. Upon his visit and after talking with campus officials, he noted, “it seemed like a good fit,” and said that his knowledge and experience can help the campus in its long-range development mission, including for a STEM academic building, new student housing options and an NCAA women’s rowing team. “It’s an absolutely beautiful location along the bay,” he said. “With beaches, thriving communities in both Sarasota and Bradenton and so many other positives, who wouldn’t be attracted here?” Beauchamp is set to start at USFSM in August. ### |
