As spring is in full swing, I thought it would be fitting to talk about your outdoor setting! We have chatted about connecting the indoor and outdoor spaces before, specifically relating to flooring and furniture, in order to help continue the flow from inside your home to your outdoor space. This time I want to “…flipped-turned upside down and I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there, and I’ll tell you…” about going the other direction…bringing the outside in! I’m talking about green…and no, not with envy, but in the form of plantings…inside.
I seem to be on a small kick, of sorts, when it comes to bringing some greenery into the home, which plays right into a design practice that is increasing again in popularity (yes, it involves white). I love the contrast of beautiful greenery against the freshness of a white wall. We have seen some great designs of late going back to the roots (pun intended) of using white as a design basis for wall color. Many find that this can be “builder” or “vanilla”; however, when paired with the right flooring and furniture, it can really help the design stand out in a space even more. Another benefit to using white walls is that it becomes innocuous (and on the “flip side”, it reflects what you put next to it), so if you also have a great view, it won’t distract from that important element that may have influenced your purchase of the property in the first place.
Just like when going to the mountains (unless it’s winter!), it’s the view of the greenery flowing over the hills and valleys that brings a sense of beauty, peacefulness, and comfort to your setting (of course if you live or have a home in the mountains, this may not be as big of a deal to you as it is to Floridians, LOL). So, the point I am trying to make here is this…why not carry the surroundings of beauty that invoke such emotion into your home by bringing the green space in?! Just like a fresh bouquet of flowers, when you walk into your home it will make you smile!
