Opening Reception – Saturday May 20 from 6-11pm
@ The Bricks, 1327 E. 7th Ave, Tampa, FL, 33605
TAMPA, FL – On May 20, The Bricks will host SHAPESHIFTERS, a solo exhibition of recent paintings by Tampa-based artist Jay Giroux.
Giroux’s recent work takes inspiration from incidental gestures and lowbrow symbolism culled from the urban streetscape. His source material is gathered from scavenging the streets (Ybor City is a staple) for hedonistic remnants: club wristbands, flyers distressed from exposure to the elements, and discarded detritus are favorites. During these pedestrian excursions, Giroux photographs specific situations to be used later as the possible catalyst for paintings.
This will be Giroux’s second solo show in Tampa. The exhibition is located in the projects room (formerly SPOT skate shop) directly next to The Bricks and will run through June 3.
