“This weekend we met the toughest regional competition I have seen since coming to Sarasota. I am certain that the Southeast Region will be represented strongly at the Youth National Championship this year.”, Coach Galvanek stated. “We have 50 student-athletes competing for National titles in front of a hometown crowd, truly amazing.”
One of many highlights of the weekend was the Men’s Youth 4+ who started the weekend of racing with only a handful of practices together. The crew of Zachary Stith, Mathew Pitchford, C. Shaw Bowman, Zachary Fagiani, and Grace Menke finished the time trial with a 7 second gap behind the first place crew. They raced in the semi final and closed the gap to 1.1 seconds, and then this determined crew went on to win the final by 3.5 seconds and qualified their boat for the National Championships.
Sarasota Crew competed with 40 other teams from across the Southeast, and won the Spooner Cup, Allstate Cup, Benderson Men’s Cup, SE Youth Women’s Points Trophy, Nathan Benderson Trophy, Sculling Points Trophy, and the SE Youth All Points Trophy for the 6th consecutive year.
