FORT MYERS, Fla. – S.J. Collins Enterprises, a commercial real estate development firm, recently broke ground on Fort Myers’ newest retail shopping district, Daniels Marketplace, a 140,000-square-foot mixed-use commercial project.
In addition to a 45,000-square-foot new-to-market Whole Foods Market, a number of other retailers will be making their debut in southwest Florida, including Habit Burger, KeKe’s Breakfast Café, Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers, PetPeople and Zoes Kitchen.
So far, the retail hub’s other mixed-used occupants include Banfield Pet Hospital, Felix Andrews Salon – an Aveda salon, Panera Bread, and Venetian Nail Spa. Tenant space ranges from 2,800 square feet to more than 5,500 square feet. Daniels Marketplace is expected to open in summer 2018.
“Lee County officials worked diligently with our team to bring this project to fruition,” said Jeff Garrison, a partner at S.J. Collins Enterprises. “Without their leadership and guidance, this regional asset would not have moved forward. We are pleased to bring this fast, fresh and healthy food option to the Fort Myers community – along with several other high-quality retail, restaurant and service businesses.”
Located at the northwest intersection of Daniels Parkway and Ben C. Pratt/Six Mile Cypress Parkway in south Fort Myers, the site location is currently comprised of a 16.5-acre driving range and an adjacent existing storm water pond. The adjacent 95,000 square feet will be transformed with a refined and diverse merchandising mix, including fast-casual dining, boutique retail, outdoor dining options and other high-end shops.
“This is an exciting and important time for Lee County as we continue to attract new businesses that will enhance the community,” said Commissioner Cecil Pendergrass, who attended the groundbreaking ceremony on May 11. “Daniels Marketplace will not only provide great options for consumers, both local and broad, but also employment opportunities, which are essential to support a thriving economy and positive quality of life.”
John Mounce, founding principal of LandQwest Commercial, represented S.J. Collins Enterprises in the acquisition of the site. In addition to brokering the transaction, LandQwest Commercial is handling the leasing for the center.
“Daniels Marketplace is a game changer,” said Mounce who assisted an almost two-year effort to find a suitable location for Whole Foods Market. “Whole Foods’ choice of a location is a seismic shift in the national perception that they must be along US-41 or I-75 to succeed in Fort Myers.”
As part of the site’s development, S.J. Collins Enterprises plans to create open space, high-end architecture, native landscaping and a walkable lifestyle environment, ensuring community members have the option of walking or biking to the retail hub. The team will also relocate the existing lake on Daniels Parkway to provide a buffer between the property owners and the retail center.
