With Blue Star Museums program, active-duty military families get in free all summer to MOSI and its huge summer experience, Cardboard Space Adventures — plus special free access for veterans and their families on Memorial Day weekend.
Tampa, Florida (May 12, 2017) — Thanks to generous support from USAA, active-duty members of the United States military and their families will be able to visit Tampa’s Museum of Science & Industry for free all summer in 2017, exploring MOSI’s enormous summer experience, Cardboard Space Adventures.
Family members of current service members with ID can discover MOSI’s more than 400 hands-on exhibits for free from the start of Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, May 27, 2017 through the end of Labor Day weekend on Monday, September 4, 2017. The offer applies to up to five family members per visit, plus the service member.
“We’re honored to come together with USAA and other really fantastic organizations to support the people who defend our freedom and their families,” said MOSI Chief Advancement Officer Bryn Warner.
“If mom or dad is deployed and away from home, MOSI is a great place for families to forget about their worries for a day. And if mom and dad are home, then MOSI is the perfect place to spend some of their precious time together.”
In addition to the summer-long program for active-duty families, veterans of the U.S. military who have served in the past are invited to MOSI for free during Memorial Day weekend, May 27–29, 2017. Veterans can also bring along up to five family members for free. Evidence of prior military service is required.
For the fourth year in a row, the military discounts are made possible by a partnership with USAA, a financial services and insurance company that serves current and former members of the U.S. military and their families. USAA’s presence in Tampa continues to grow, with a new facility added in 2016 and more than 400 jobs created in the Tampa Bay Area since 2013.
How it works
MOSI joins more than 2,000 participants in the Blue Star Museums program, which is a collaboration of the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums across America. To find participating museums and plan your trip, visit arts.gov/bluestarmuseums.
Military members do not need to be present for their families to visit MOSI; the free admission program is available to any bearer of a DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID), a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card, which includes active duty U.S. military — Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, as well as members of the National Guard and Reserve, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, NOAA Commissioned Corps — and up to five family members.
Free admission is valid for MOSI permanent exhibits only. Additional paid upgrades are available for IMAX® films or the Sky Trail® Ropes Course and Zip Line. For more information on Blue Star Museums at MOSI, call 813-987-6000.
