Mathew J. Bateman, Ph.D., D.H.Ed., has been named Dean of the Lake Erie College of Medicine’s (LECOM) School of Dental Medicine in Bradenton, FL. Dr. Bateman replaces Dr. Anton Gotleib, D.D.S., M.S., who resigned earlier this year.
In announcing the appointment, Silvia M. Ferretti, D.O., Provost, Senior Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs for LECOM, said, “The LECOM Administration was confident in choosing Dr. Bateman for this position because of his many successes, his outstanding service to the LECOM community, and, in particular, his role as a member of the administrative team that made the establishment of the School of Dental Medicine (SDM) in Erie, PA, and in DeFuniak Springs, FL, possible.
“Although LECOM initiated a national search for a new Dean of the SDM, it was apparent to the President and the Board of Trustees of LECOM that Dr. Bateman’s unparalleled skills and expertise made him an ideal candidate to fill the role of Dean.”
Dr. Bateman has served as LECOM’s Assistant Dean of Curriculum, Evaluation, and Faculty and is the Institutional Director of Planning, Assessment, Accreditation, and Research, overseeing institutional strategic planning, accreditation for all of LECOM’s programs, grant applications and management, and institutional research.
“He has been an integral part of the LECOM team working with the Commission on Dental Accreditation in obtaining and maintaining the accreditation for the SDM. His knowledge of the operations, academic structure and plans for the SDM make him ideally suited to serve as the school’s dean,” Dr. Ferretti said.
