DETAILS: Eighth grade students at Hillel Academy will lead the school’s celebrations of Israel Independence Day.
Between 10:15 a.m.- 12:15 p.m. students will rotate among stations every 20 minutes, experiencing different aspects of Israeli culture. At 12:15 p.m. a kosher Israeli lunch will be served, prepared by the school’s chef, Keren Amoyal.
Following the school’s tradition, during the Yom Ha’atzmaut activities, all students will be “visiting” the Kotel (Western Wall) and writing notes to send with eighth graders who will leave Wednesday, May 3 for a 17-day trip to Israel. On this trip, they will have many amazing experiences, such as praying at the Western Wall, touring the Avshalom stalactite cave, Jeep riding at Golan Heights, floating in the Dead Sea, celebrating Shabbat, participating in an archeological dig, sleeping in a Bedouin tent, riding on camels, spelunking in the ancient tunnels of Chirbet Midras and more.
A goodbye ceremony for parents and students will be held at 2:15 p.m. Students will be given the Siddur, a prayer book which contains daily prayers for weekdays, Shabbat, and festivals. Receiving the siddur and praying from it makes the children feel closer to Hashem in their own way, giving them sense of accomplishment and responsibility.
