TAMPA, FL (April 26, 2017) – The Tampa Bay Technology Leadership Association (TBTLA), a leading technology association offering education, networking, and volunteer opportunities to IT executives throughout Tampa Bay, today announced it will host its quarterly event featuring Tech Data’s Executive Vice President (EVP) and Chief Information Officer (CIO) John “JT” Tonnison on Thursday, May 11th from 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. ET at The University of Tampa.
A 15-year company veteran, Tonnison has served as CIO at Tech Data Corporation since 2009. In his role, he is responsible for the company’s worldwide IT strategy, delivery, and operations. In 2015, Tonnison was named to Computerworld’s Premier 100 IT Leaders list. A dedicated advocate for diversity and inclusion, he was honored with the Silver Medallion Award by Community Tampa Bay in 2015 and named an “Outstanding Voice” for LGBT equality by the Tampa Bay Business Journal in 2016. He currently serves as the president of Florida Competes and serves on the advisory board of Equality Means Business.
“We are excited and honored to have JT headline our next event, which is focused on talent acquisition, because so many of our local technology leaders are seeking new ways to recruit and retain the best IT talent,” said Cindy Brown, Founder and Board Member at Large at the TBTLA. “JT’s experience running an efficient and high-performing IT organization at a Fortune 100 company makes him a great fit to educate other IT leaders about talent acquisition and share his expertise.”
With Tech Data’s recent acquisition of Avnet’s Technology Solutions business, event attendees will learn how an IT executive at a Fortune 100 company plans to tackle the challenges of integrating thousands of employees, while recruiting talent on a local and global scale. This event will provide tactics to overcome the pitfalls many IT organizations face when recruiting talent and outline a path forward to retain talent.
