
Spring Hill, Florida (April 25, 2017) – Oak Hill Hospital again sponsored the annual Five Points of Life Kids’ Marathon. The marathon culminated on April 1. Children walked, jogged or ran the final 1.2 miles of a 26.2 mile marathon. Oak Hill Hospital teamed with Five Points of Life Foundation and LifeSouth Community Blood Centers to get youngsters up and active while also raising awareness of five ways people can share life through donation.
The goal was to walk 25 miles, a little bit at a time, with participants from kindergarten through the eighth grade logging their mileage as they go. On April 1 the participants gathered for celebration run or walk of 1.2 miles to complete the marathon distance. In addition, a 5K race was added this year with 166 participants crossing the finish line. Three hundred eighty students between K8 crossed the finish line for the Kids’ Marathon, 1.2 mile course.
Oak Hill Hospital Pediatric Emergency Care Center sponsored two awards of $500 each to give back to participating schools. A check for $500 was presented to the school with the most students registered and a check for $500 was presented to the school with the highest percentage of students registered based on their enrollment. The winner for the highest number registered was Winding Waters K8. The winner for the highest percentage of enrollment registered was Pine Grove Elementary.
This year there were over 800 registrations between both events. In addition the 5K overall winners were as follows:
