St. Petersburg, Fla. (April 17, 2017) – Classic Albums Live is coming to the Palladium Theater, performing the legendary Eagles album Hotel California in its entirety Sunday, July 16 at 7 p.m., and Supertramp’s Breakfast in America Sunday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m.
Musician Craig Martin founded the acclaimed, Toronto-based concert series in 2003, in which different groups of musicians reproduce every sound heard on the original album. “Classic Albums Live,” he says, “is simple in its quest: note for note – cut for cut. When you have amazing songs, a perfect album and a deep love of music – there’s nothing else needed. Hotel California features CAL at its best.”
Featuring massive hits in “New Kid in Town,” “Life in the Fast Lane” and the title song, Hotel California was one of the biggest-selling albums of the 1970s, and the most popular (non-compilation) Eagles album. “The deep cuts – the ones that don’t get radio play – those are the ones that are like finding gold on a beach,” according to Martin.
Supertramp’s Breakfast in America performed a similar feat in 1979 and ’80, with the title tune, “The Logical Song” and “Take the Long Way Home” reaching the upper limits of the charts.
“The two distinct vocals within Supertramp are, like the Beatles, the secret ingredient,” Martin explains. “When rehearsing the album we spent a lot of time getting all the layered vocals – they’re complex, melodic and full of meaning, and the sound becomes a siren of joy.”
