The Pasco-Hernando State College cheer team placed fourth in the Cheer Ltd. Nationals at CANAM in the small coed collegiate division on Friday, March 17, 2017. The competition was held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center in Myrtle Beach, SC.
“I am extremely proud of the team’s hard work this season. Despite a few mistakes during the competition, they pulled through and took home the fourth place national trophy,” said Sophia Fluellen, head cheer coach and PHSC advisor. “It takes a tremendous amount of dedication for these student athletes to work for seven months to perform a two and a half minute routine,” said Fluellen.
PHSC’s retiring mascot, Conquor, accompanied the team to the national competition. “We were honored that Conquor was able to cheer us on one last time,” said Fluellen. Conquor, the sword-wielding conquistador and college mascot since 1993, will retire this spring.
