Featuring Events for Southeastern Guide Dogs, Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue and a Special Screening of The Secret Life of Pets
Sarasota, Fla. (March 14, 2017) — Nathan Benderson Park will be canine crazy on March 18th and 19th, hosting events to benefit Southeastern Guide Dogs (SEGD) and Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue, with a free screening of The Secret Life of Pets, sandwiched in between.
“The Park will be a special place March 18 and 19. We are happy to invite everyone to the park for two events to raise money and awareness for two very special causes –Southeastern Guide Dogs and Nate’s Honor Rescue, both located in our backyard,” said Robert J. Sullivan, CFE, president and CEO of SANCA. “Top it off with a community viewing of The Secret Life of Pets, and we have one great weekend.”
For the first time, this year’s SEGD’s annual walkathon will be a Wag N’ Run, adding a 5K and 10K run to the list of events. Gates will open at 7:30 a.m.; 10K start time is 9 a.m.; 5k start time is 9:15 a.m. and the 3K walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. The fun will continue after the races at a party on Regatta Island complete with music, food, and vendors.
Saturday evening, SANCA invites everyone to the park to enjoy a free screening of The Secret Life of Pets, a comedy about the lives our pets lead after we leave for work or school every day. The gates open at 6:30 p.m. and the movie will begin at sunset, roughly 7:45 p.m. Guests are encouraged to arrive early. Parking is free and local food trucks will be on site to sell a variety of refreshments to those who choose not to pack their own.
The weekend culminates as Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue presents its Pedal for Pups and Doggy Bone 5K and 10K race. Families and pets are encouraged to come out and ride, walk or run to help saves the lives of dogs and cats. Registration the day of the event begins at 7 a.m. The 63-mile bike ride begins at 7:45 a.m.; the 5 and 10K races begins at 8:15 a.m.; the 30-mile bike ride begins at 8:30 a.m.; the 15-mile ride at 8:30 and the 5K/1 mile/dog walk begins at 9:25.
