SARASOTA COUNTY – Come learn how archaeologists apply different techniques to determine the age of artifacts and archaeology sites during a free radiocarbon workshop in the Edson Keith Mansion at Phillippi Estate Park from 1-3 p.m., Wednesday, March 15.
The workshop will be led by Dr. Uzi Baram, director of the Public Archaeology Lab at New College of Florida, Dr. George Luer, Jeff Moates of Florida Public Archaeology Network, and Sarasota County Archaeoloist Steve Koski. This highly qualified and decorated team of scientists will present the most common types of relative and absolute dating methods, and show how the dates of the archaeology site at Phillippi Estate Park were determined.
There will also be a walking tour at 11:30 a.m., during which Koski will discuss the Phillippi Estate Park flake scatter and the Prodie Shell Midden as you stroll the park and learn about the pre-history of the area.
No registration is required for this free event and walking tour. Phillippi Estate Park is located at 5500 S. Tamiami Trail.
