TAMPA, Fla. (March 10, 2017) – Unfortunately there are many veterans who cannot afford to make necessary repairs to their homes. Roof repairs that go completely ignored can easily turn into very costly repairs or replacements. A roof replacement can cost between $5,000 and $25,000 depending on the size of the structure.
In collaboration with Hillsborough County government, Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay (RTTB), a non-profit general contractor is offering to repair or replace the roofs of low-income military veterans free of charge to the homeowner. A roof replacement is the type of home repair that cannot be put off until you have the money to complete the project.
The roof it is the most important part of the structure and Florida roofs take a beating due to the ongoing rains and blazing heats. The rains will soon be here and many will have wished they had not ignored those repairs. This program helps veterans in need, said Jose Garcia, RTTB Executive Director.
Veterans that need a new roof can contact RTTB at (813)-878-9000 extension 7. This program is offered on a first come first serve basis. RTTB is only accepting applications for military veterans at this time.
Funding is limited and additional qualifications may be required for approval.
Eligible Veterans:
Be a military veteran or currently serving.
Be a homeowner that is current with your property taxes.
Household income cannot exceed limits below according to household size.

How to tell if you need to repair or replace your roof:
Leak stain on your ceiling
Roof age. How old is your roof? A roof typically lasts about 20 years. Factors such as extreme weather can accelerate the aging process.
Missing shingles is a sign your roof is failing.
Shingles that are curling and buckling may mean you need a new roof. Shingles that are curling and losing granules are past their time.
Shingle granules in the gutters could mean your shingles are at the end of their life cycle. Discolored or darker spots on the roof is another sign the granules have worn away.
Daylight through the roof boards. Check your attic to see if there is any daylight coming through the roof boards.
