LARGO, FL – February 2016) – The staff and physicians of the Florida Spine & Neuro Center at Largo Medical Center are proud to announce the Renaissance® Mazor Robotics guidance system as the latest addition to the hospital’s spine and robotics surgical programs. Christopher Koebbe, MD, Endovascular Spine Surgeon at LMC performed the first procedure at the hospital in January.
“Acquiring this robot is part of our continuous commitment to delivering the highest standard of care for our patients,” explains Anthony Degina, CEO, Largo Medical Center. ” Adding robotic technology to our spine program is another step in our development of becoming a nationally renowned academic medical center, always providing compassionate care and service.”
Before entering the OR, a surgeon will use the robot to pre-plan the operation with a CT-based 3D simulation of the patient’s spine.
“We have learned this robot is one of the safest and most accurate minimally-invasive technologies for spine procedures,” said Dr. Koebbe. “Minimally-invasive procedures can mean less pain, smaller incisions, shorter hospitals stays and faster recovery times.”
Additional safety features of this approach include enhanced precision though a pre-planned approach and a reduced risk of fluoroscopy.
