Elementary, middle and high school students from across the Tampa Bay Region will converge on the USF campus Feb. 17-18 to immerse themselves in visual experiments as they learn about science and technology
TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 13, 2017) – The University of South Florida’s annual engineering EXPO aims to bring technology out of the classroom and into the sunshine, giving students of all ages an opportunity to experience science from a different perspective. More than 10,000 visitors from schools around the Tampa Bay Region will see, hear, smell and feel science up close during the EXPO, which has become a popular field trip destination for local students.
The EXPO is scheduled for 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Feb. 17-18 near the USF College of Engineering. Organized by USF engineering students, this will be the 45th year for the event.
Through interactive activities and opportunities to meet engineering and science professionals, the EXPO teaches K-12 students the importance of technology in our lives and the value in learning about its impact on society. There are also activities geared toward fulfilling mathematics and science learning standards set by the Florida Department of Education.
Participants will find more than 60 exhibits demonstrating engineering principles and featuring the latest technology used by companies such as Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and Tampa Electric Company (TECO). There will also be presentations by Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programs from local schools that demonstrate their technology interests.
