St. Petersburg, FL (February 9, 2017) – Shorecrest Preparatory School has been awarded a Stephen P. Robinson Collaboration Grant from the Southern Association of Independent School (SAIS). The grant of $5,000 will fund the launch of the Center for Service Learning Leadership (CSLL), a professional development institute for independent school educators.
“We are so proud to be able to launch the Center for Service Learning Leadership,” says Shorecrest Headmaster Mike Murphy. “The grant from SAIS allows our Director of Service Learning, Diego Duran-Medina, and a team of committed educators and service organizations to bring service learning to more schools and programs nationwide.”
Over five full days of teaching, learning, collaborating, site visits and planning, CSLL will prepare educators to return to their campuses with a concrete plan and strategy to implement service learning both in their classrooms and throughout the school. To learn more about CSLL, visit www.leadingservicelearning.org.
“Shorecrest is honored that SAIS believes in our vision to bring cutting edge service-learning to the independent school community and believe we can provide a vibrant learning laboratory with our community and school partners,” says Duran-Medina, who championed the program. “We are excited to welcome our first class of educators this summer to the CSLL institute”.
“SAIS believes that all schools can be strengthened by partnerships and collaborations with other schools and organizations,” said Dr. Kirk Walker, President of SAIS. “We applaud Shorecrest for its efforts to enhance its educational program by reaching beyond its campus borders.”
The Stephen P. Robinson Collaboration Grants were established in 2014 to encourage independent schools to form new partnerships with other schools, institutions of higher education, businesses, and nonprofits. For more information visit www.sais.org/collaboration.
