SARASOTA, Fla. (Feb. 01, 2017) Kelley Lavin, a longtime supporter of USF Sarasota-Manatee and publisher of Sarasota Magazine, 941CEO and Venice Magazine, has accepted an appointment to the Campus Board. A media executive for more than 25 years at such publications as Chicago Magazine and Vogue, Lavin was appointed to the five-member board by USFSM Regional Chancellor Dr. Sandra Stone. “I started my career at community and state-funded schools as a student activity director. The chance to be involved in education again was too great an opportunity to pass up,” Lavin said of her appointment. “I am honored to be asked to serve.” The Campus Board functions as USFSM’s governing body. Members serve single four-year terms but can be reappointed once by trustees. USF System President Dr. Judy Genshaft and the USF Board of Trustees confirmed Lavin’s appointment last month. Byron E. Shinn, chairman of the Campus Board, said of Lavin, “We are proud to have her on the board, with her Sarasota background, and look forward to improving our commitment to the community.” Echoing Shinn, Dr. Stone added, “Her wealth of experience in marketing and media, along with her knowledge of the communities we serve, will be valuable assets to us as we continue to grow and develop new programs and services.” Lavin brings volumes of marketing and branding experience to her board position. In addition to a career at national and local publications – she’s served as publisher of Sarasota Magazine since 2010 – Lavin created marketing programs for such notable companies as Unilever, Procter & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson, Kraft and Colgate. She also operated a marketing consulting company specializing in custom publishing with Wal-Mart as a client. Born in Tucson, Ariz., where her father was a cattle rancher, Lavin and her husband have lived in Sarasota for more than 20 years. Lavin said she was drawn to the Campus Board to contribute to what she sees as a valuable community asset that serves not only high school graduates, but also “military veterans and people already in the workforce who are seeking to continue their education.” “I am impressed by the diversity of USFSM’s student demographics, the quality and leadership of its staff, its innovative curriculum and its dedication to enhancing student life,” she said. “I wanted to be part of this dynamic team.” ### |
