Old McMicky’s Farm Announces Vast 2017 Community Giving Initiatives
The farm commits to increase giving programs, some by over 100%
Odessa, FL (January 18, 2017)– Since it revitalization 2013, Old McMickys Farm has established itself as a significant Tampa Bay community partner, working with at-risk kids, veterans and military members, kids living within the foster care system and others who are facing challenges of one kind or another. In 2017, Farm leaders have committed to massively expand community giving efforts, with some programs more than doubling their previous reach.
The “1000 Kids” program began in 2014 and has served over 3500 kids living in the Tampa Bay area since its inception. The goal of the program is to host 1,000 local kids per year who are facing serious challenges for an awesome, educational and fun day at the Farm, at No Charge. The visits empower children to learn and gain new experiences, teach kids of all backgrounds about American farm life, make stories of animals come to life with hands-on, educational interactive experiences and share Florida’s most unique hands-on animal educational farm in a beautiful, natural setting with Old Floridian charm.
In 2017, with the support of the DeBartolo Family Foundation, the program will reach an additional 1,000 local Boys and Girls Club kids – bringing the 2017 program goal to 2,000 kids! Law enforcement officers that support each of the Boys and Girls club locations are invited to attend with the kids for their day at the farm.
Information about the “1000 Kids” program and a list of benefiting organizations is available at https://oldmcmickys.com/1000-kids/ .The farm is now accepting applications for 2017.
The nationally recognized “Mission I Do” program will also continue in 2017, this year awarding 2 FREE $25,000 all-inclusive dream weddings to deserving active duty or veteran military couples in the Tampa Bay area. This contribution is in appreciation for the sacrifice of the men and women who currently serve or who have served in our military. The farm feels that everyone who serves in our military helps to protect all of our families, so we thought one of the best ways to show our appreciation was to help them to start families of their own. Applications will be accepted in April and voting will start in May with exact dates to be announced. Since the program’s inception in 2014, the farm has given away five free military dream weddings and the “Mission I Do” program has been featured on both national TV and in People Magazine. In 2016, the Farm was privileged to host a very special birthday party for a very special child. Eric Piburn was born with a heart condition called Tetralogy of Fallot, which is four defects of the heart and blood vessels. After four heart surgeries, he is in need of a new heart and a double lung transplant. So far neither has been attempted due to the dangers posed by the surgeries. One of Eric’s very modest bucket list items was a birthday party where everyone could come share in his special day. Last year the farm donated that party and it was a huge success. Eric and everyone had an amazing time with over 800 people in attendance and $15,000 was raised for Eric’s medical care.
Old McMicky’s is pleased again to donate our venue for a birthday party fundraiser to make some of Eric’s dreams come true. Per Eric and Old McMicky’s Farm – The whole town is invited – and both of us know how to throw a party. It will be a great time for Eric and 100% of the proceeds go to his family for his medical care.
Date: February 26, 2017 12:00pm – 4:00pm. Tickets $10. Please visit https://oldmcmickys.com/ for details and tickets.
To follow the success of the farm’s Child Adoption Education Day and to continue supporting the Tama Bay area foster community, the Farm is inviting all foster children in the Tampa Bay area and their caregivers to come out for Foster Children Fun Day at the Farm in May free of charge. This private event will be open to the foster children and their caregivers and all guardians in the Guardian at Litem programs serving Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties. At any one time over 3,000 kids are in the foster system in the 3 combined counties and it is the belief of farm leadership that these kids uniquely deserve any and all special and memorable days that can be created for them.
