January 5, 2017 by Post

Suncoast Technology Forum

Open to all in the business community

An industry-wide luncheon presentation on “Decision Making in the Big Data Environment!” and the benefits for your local Suncoast business is being held January 17, 2017, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Polo Bar and Grill, 10670 Boardwalk Loop, Lakewood Ranch, FL 34202. Presented by the Suncoast Technology Forum, all in the Florida Suncoast business community are invited.

The Suncoast Technology Forum presents an informative presentation by USF Professors Dr. Giti Javidi and Dr. Ehsan Sheybani on “Decision Making in the Big Data Environment!” and the benefits for your local Suncoast business. All technologists, business owners, educators, and local government representatives will gain tremendous insight on this topic!

Handling large amounts of data can be overwhelming. Easily implemented business processes can be used to help get control of and organize data in meaningful ways. In order to make decisions in Big Data environments, it is necessary to have an understanding of the system dynamics – and that requires analysis. Recent developments in the business intelligence domain improves usability of Big Data, using automated filtering of data and exposing relationships between the data. In many Big Data projects, there is no large data analysis happening – the challenge is to extract, transform, and load part of the data using preprocessing techniques.

Highlights of the presentation will cover:

  • Identify challenges in decision making in Big Data environments
  • Models for managing the wave of information Big Data presents
  • Identify shortcomings of some of the available solutions
  • Recognize the opportunities presented by advanced signal processing
  • Data analysis techniques to overcome Big Data issues
