Red Door No. 5
1910 N. Florida Avenue, Tampa, FL 33602
Red Door No. 5, located in the old Tampa Heights Fire Station, is excited to present UNFURLED: An Opening Reception for abstract artists Stephanie Ong and Laura Kmetz.
The reception will be held in conjunction with First Friday Art in the Heights, Friday Jan. 6 from 7-10pm. Cash Bar.
Stephanie Ong’s paintings are about the process; the use of light and scale; the strength of color; an alternate form of communication. Her latest body of work, Habitats, explores transitions in life; inspired by what it means to have a safe place to inhabit, to return to, and to move on from. She lives in Tampa with her husband and children and holds a studio at the Santaella Studios for the Arts. Preview her work at stephanieongart.com
Laura Kmetz conveys the transience and intricacy of nature through multi-layered, nuanced mixed media works. The embedded beauty and value in fragmented organic artifacts offers further associations with displacement, loss, search, recovery and preservation. Her interpretations of land, water, and sky in motion are informed by the cycles of life and atmospheric shifts.
Laura holds an MA from Columbia University and BFA from the University of Louisville. She exhibited in several New York City galleries over eighteen years, and was a teacher of Art and Humanities. Laura currently works from her studio in Palma Ceia, and can be reached at KmetzArtandDesign.com.
