SARASOTA COUNTY – Sarasota County Extension Master Gardeners will host a special screening of ” Wild Orchid Man: In the Mountains of Amazonas” on Jan. 4, at the Sarasota County Extension and Sustainability Office at Twin Lakes Park.
Registration is $10 for the general public and free for active Sarasota County Extension Master Gardeners. Proceeds from the screening benefit the Master Gardeners’ Chapter of the Friends of Sarasota County Parks, which supports educational outreach programs in Sarasota County. Advanced registration is required.
In the film, Stig and Darryl travel to the Andes Mountain region in northern Peru in search of rare orchids, along the way checking the ecological health of a delicate area that feeds the vital Amazon basin. Their journey through rugged yet breathtaking terrain ultimately rewards the pair with new discoveries.
Along with this trip to the Amazon, the “Wild Orchid Man” series includes orchid-hunting trips to the Arctic, Andes, and through the Florida swamps in search of the ghost orchid.
The event is set for 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 4 in the UF/IFAS Extension community room at Twin Lakes Park, 6700 Clark Road, Sarasota.
