Ava restaurant chooses The Heights for second Tampa location
SoHo Capital brings Neapolitan pizzas and paninis to its Armature Works market
TAMPA, FL (Dec. 6, 2016) – Fans of the critically acclaimed, wood-fired pizza served up at South Tampa’s Ava restaurant will soon be able to enjoy a fresh take on its rustic, Italian fare when it opens a second Tampa location in early 2017.
Ava will open a new “pizzeria” as part of The Heights Public Market, located inside SoHo Capital’s redeveloped Armature Works building along Tampa’s Riverwalk. Executive chef Joshua Hernandez and his staff will offer a menu of pizzas, salads and assorted paninis, created exclusively for the market with a 900-degree, Italian-made Acunto oven.
Among the group of Ava investors behind the expansion are Michael Stewart, who runs the successful restaurants 717 in Tampa and The Lure in St. Petersburg, and Joe Maddon, manager of the world champion Chicago Cubs.
“We are thrilled to bring our food to The Heights Public Market,” Stewart said. “Working with SoHo Capital gives us the opportunity to expand our customer base and to connect to the fast-growing north end of downtown Tampa.”
The Armature Works building, a 70,000-square-foot former storage and maintenance facility for Tampa’s streetcars, is being repurposed to house The Heights Public Market, multiple event spaces, a shared workspace, a rooftop social area and two restaurants. Once the facility is fully functional, more than 300 people will work there.
The Heights Public Market will include an array of unique food concepts designed and operated by local restaurateurs and chefs. Distinctive cocktails, craft beers, baked breads and gourmet sandwiches, savory noodles, the finest cheeses and charcuterie, coffee, fresh flowers, pizza and a bakery full of desserts are just a few of the items that will be offered.
The Heights Public Market will also feature an interactive kitchen, called Show + Tell, that will host educational cooking classes, corporate team-building activities and pop-up dinners in collaboration with The Heights Public Market tenants.
Other previously announced partners in The Heights Public Market are:
– Ichicoro Ramen – A mod casual authentic Ramen restaurant, serving soulful, delicious food and beverages.
– Union by Commune + Co – A local coffee company that has a fleet of trikes sharing the company’s flagship iced coffee product, Pressure Brew, at area events.
– Tailored Twig – A floral boutique that specializes in one-of-a-kind pieces for distinctive events.
– Chocolate Pi – A bakery focusing on pastries and cakes made in the European tradition with American creativity.
– Fine and Dandy – A cocktail emporium focusing on package sales, craft cocktail kits and classes.
– Steelbach Ranch – A boutique butcher with charcuterie and artisan cheeses.
More tenants will be announced soon for The Heights Public Market, which has space remaining for three more tenants.
Also in the plans for the Armature Works: two restaurants, the first of which, called Steelbach, will be a modern eatery using the best meats from the in-house butcher in The Heights Market. Steelbach will be operated by BE-1 Concepts.
And adjacent to the building will be the recently announced Atlantic Beer & Oyster, which will showcase a rotation of East Coast, West Coast and Gulf Coast oysters, as well as fresh shrimp, smoked fish dip and its signature grouper sandwich. The outdoor eatery will also showcase local breweries.
